Our Story - Eirlys Studio

Our Story

A Welsh name. A mother's legacy. A commitment to craft that spans generations and connects communities.

Eirlys on her wedding day

Eirlys

Pronounced "AYR-liss" | Welsh for "Snowdrop"

Eirlys Studio takes its name from the mother of our co-founder, Mark—a Welsh woman whose warmth, resilience, and dedication to quality shaped not only her family but the values at the heart of everything we create. Like the snowdrop that blooms against the Welsh winter, Eirlys represents strength, beauty, and enduring grace.

Two Founders, One Vision

Eirlys Studio was born from a partnership that brings together decades of manufacturing expertise with modern e-commerce innovation. Mark's 38 years of precision craftsmanship meets Harry's vision for building premium brands that connect with discerning customers worldwide.

Together, they've created something unique: a brand rooted in Welsh heritage and traditional woodworking excellence, brought to life through a digital experience that honors the quality of every handcrafted piece.

Mark

Co-Founder & Master Craftsman

Mark grew up in Wales, watching his mother Eirlys tend to their home with care and intention. With 38+ years in precision manufacturing—crafting bespoke installations for the world's most prestigious luxury retailers—he brings uncompromising standards and generational expertise to every board that leaves our Ferndale workshop.

Harry

Co-Founder & Brand Director

Harry built the Eirlys brand from the ground up—developing our online presence, crafting the e-commerce experience, and creating the digital strategy that brings Mark's exceptional craftsmanship to kitchens around the world. His expertise in premium brand positioning ensures every touchpoint reflects the quality within.

Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) — The Welsh landscape that inspires our craft and names our collections

"My mother taught me that quality isn't about perfection—it's about care. It's about taking the time to do something properly, to honor the materials you work with, and to create things that will serve people well for years to come. That's what we do here."

— Mark, Co-Founder

From Global Luxury to Kitchen Craft

Our Ferndale workshop has a storied history. For decades, this facility manufactured bespoke fixtures, fittings, and installations for some of the world's most prestigious luxury retailers—names synonymous with excellence, precision, and uncompromising standards. From flagship stores in London and Paris to boutiques in New York and Tokyo, the craftsmanship that emerged from this workshop set the standard for luxury retail environments worldwide.

When the opportunity arose to refocus our expertise, we didn't abandon that legacy—we channeled it. We took the same precision engineering, the same meticulous quality control, and the same dedication to perfection that served global luxury brands, and applied it to something more intimate: the home kitchen.

Every board we craft benefits from 38+ years of manufacturing excellence. The machinery, the skills, the standards—they're all here, now serving a new purpose: creating chopping boards that perform beautifully and last generations.

The Making

Every Eirlys board passes through skilled hands at each stage—from raw timber selection through to final inspection. Here's a glimpse into our Ferndale workshop.

The Eirlys Stamp

Earned, Not Given

The Eirlys heat stamp isn't applied to every board we make—it's reserved for those that pass our final inspection. It represents our promise: that this piece meets our standards, that it's worthy of our name, and that we're proud to send it to your kitchen.

Boards that don't meet the standard don't get the stamp. It's the final layer of quality control—a mark that says we've examined every edge, every surface, every detail, and we stand behind what we've made.

Rooted in Wales

Every board is designed and handcrafted in our Rhondda Valley workshop. We're proud to contribute to Welsh manufacturing and support our local community.

Proven Excellence

Our workshop manufactured for the world's leading luxury retailers. That same precision and quality now goes into every Eirlys board.

Built to Last

We use FSC-certified hardwoods and time-tested construction methods. These aren't disposable products—they're heirlooms in the making.

Named After Wales

Our connection to Wales goes beyond the workshop. Many of our boards are named after Welsh landmarks—places that hold meaning, beauty, and history. From Pen y Fan to Snowdonia, from the Brecon Beacons to the coastal villages that dot our shores, each name is a tribute to the landscape that shaped us.

When you choose a board named after a Welsh landmark, you're not just buying a kitchen tool—you're bringing a piece of Wales into your home. You're connecting to a place, a story, and a tradition of craftsmanship that has endured for centuries.

Experience the Legacy
