Our Story
A Welsh name. A mother's legacy. A commitment to craft that spans generations and connects communities.
Eirlys
Pronounced "AYR-liss" | Welsh for "Snowdrop"
Eirlys Studio takes its name from the mother of our founder, Mark—a Welsh woman whose warmth, resilience, and dedication to quality shaped not only her family but the values at the heart of everything we create. Like the snowdrop that blooms against the Welsh winter, Eirlys represents strength, beauty, and enduring grace.

A Son's Tribute
Mark grew up in Wales, watching his mother tend to their home with care and intention. She valued things made properly—objects that lasted, that told stories, that connected people to place and tradition. When Mark founded Eirlys Studio, naming it after her was never a question. It was a way to honor her legacy and carry forward the principles she lived by: quality over convenience, craftsmanship over mass production, and pride in Welsh heritage.
Every board we make carries her name. Every piece is a reflection of the values she instilled—attention to detail, respect for materials, and an unwavering commitment to doing things properly, even when it's harder.
"My mother taught me that quality isn't about perfection—it's about care. It's about taking the time to do something properly, to honor the materials you work with, and to create things that will serve people well for years to come. That's what we do here."
From Global Luxury to Kitchen Craft
Our Ferndale workshop has a storied history. For decades, this facility manufactured bespoke fixtures, fittings, and installations for some of the world's most prestigious luxury retailers—names synonymous with excellence, precision, and uncompromising standards. From flagship stores in London and Paris to boutiques in New York and Tokyo, the craftsmanship that emerged from this workshop set the standard for luxury retail environments worldwide.
When the opportunity arose to refocus our expertise, we didn't abandon that legacy—we channeled it. We took the same precision engineering, the same meticulous quality control, and the same dedication to perfection that served global luxury brands, and applied it to something more intimate: the home kitchen.
Every board we craft benefits from 38+ years of manufacturing excellence. The machinery, the skills, the standards—they're all here, now serving a new purpose: creating chopping boards that perform beautifully and last generations.
Rooted in Wales
Every board is designed and handcrafted in our Rhondda Valley workshop. We're proud to contribute to Welsh manufacturing and support our local community.
Proven Excellence
Our workshop manufactured for the world's leading luxury retailers. That same precision and quality now goes into every Eirlys board.
Built to Last
We use FSC-certified hardwoods and time-tested construction methods. These aren't disposable products—they're heirlooms in the making.
Named After Wales
Our connection to Wales goes beyond the workshop. Many of our boards are named after Welsh landmarks—places that hold meaning, beauty, and history. From Pen y Fan to Snowdonia, from the Brecon Beacons to the coastal villages that dot our shores, each name is a tribute to the landscape that shaped us.
When you choose a board named after a Welsh landmark, you're not just buying a kitchen tool—you're bringing a piece of Wales into your home. You're connecting to a place, a story, and a tradition of craftsmanship that has endured for centuries.
