About This Board

One board, two purposes—carve with confidence, serve with pride.

The moment a roast emerges from the oven, everything accelerates. Juices flowing, guests waiting, the carving knife poised. This is no time for compromise. The Dualis is built for exactly this pressure—a board that performs flawlessly at the carving station, then transforms into an elegant serving piece for the table.

One side features a deep perimeter groove with integrated juice well, capturing every drop from your Sunday roast or Christmas turkey. A corner pour notch allows clean transfer to a gravy boat. Flip the board to reveal a pristine serving surface—the same honeyed British oak, now ready to present your carved meat at the table. Integrated handles make the journey from kitchen to dining room secure and graceful.

Crafted from FSC-certified British oak

The Story

British oak has shaped this island's history—from the hulls of naval ships to the beams of medieval halls, from whisky casks to Windsor chairs. It's a timber woven into our cultural fabric, instantly recognisable by its warm honey tones and bold, cathedral-like grain patterns.

End-grain construction honours this heritage timber. With wood fibres oriented vertically, knife edges slip between rather than across the grain, preserving sharpness while the surface naturally closes around each cut. Oak's natural tannins provide inherent antimicrobial properties—a characteristic that made it the choice of butchers for generations.

The Dualis Name

From the Latin for "two" or "dual nature"—a name that captures this board's essential character. Neither purely functional nor purely beautiful, the Dualis refuses to choose. It's a carving board that belongs at the table, a serving piece built to withstand the blade. Two purposes, one heirloom.

Built for the Centrepiece Moments

Christmas turkey. Sunday roast. Birthday beef Wellington. The Dualis is designed for the meals that gather people together—substantial enough to anchor the occasion, beautiful enough to deserve its place at the centre of the table.

Handcrafted in Wales

Each board is made by hand at our workshop in Ferndale, in the heart of the Rhondda Valley. The juice groove is precision-milled, the pour notch hand-finished to ensure clean flow. No two boards are identical—oak's dramatic grain variations and occasional medullary rays create surfaces of striking individuality.

About British Oak

Oak is among the most revered of British hardwoods—with a Janka hardness of 1,120 lbf, it offers exceptional durability and resistance to wear. Its open grain structure develops a beautiful patina over years of use, while natural tannins provide antimicrobial properties ideal for food preparation.

The warm honey colour of oak deepens slightly with age and light exposure, developing richer golden tones over time. Distinctive medullary rays—the tiger-stripe patterns unique to oak—create visual interest that makes each board unmistakably individual.

Reversible Design

The carving side features a precision-milled perimeter groove that channels juices toward an integrated 2cm deep well—generous enough to contain the run-off from even the largest roasts. The corner pour notch allows clean, controlled transfer to a waiting vessel. The serving side is left smooth and uninterrupted, providing an elegant presentation surface.

Food-Safe Finish

Finished exclusively with pure food-safe mineral oil. Free from BPA, phthalates, formaldehyde, and any harmful chemicals. Safe for direct food contact across all food types, including raw meat, poultry, and game.

Care Instructions

A well-cared-for board becomes more beautiful with age. With oak, proper care develops the rich patina that makes this timber so prized while protecting the surface for generations of use.

Daily Care

After each use, wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Dry immediately with a clean towel—never leave standing in water or place in the dishwasher. Stand upright to air dry completely before storing.

After Carving

The juice groove requires attention after carving fatty or juicy meats. Clean thoroughly with warm soapy water, paying particular attention to the groove corners and pour notch. Rinse well and dry immediately. Any residual fat left in the groove can become rancid over time.

Monthly Maintenance

Apply food-safe mineral oil monthly, or whenever the wood appears dry or lighter in colour. Pour a small amount onto the surface and spread evenly with a clean cloth, working oil into the groove and handles. Allow 20 minutes for the oil to penetrate, then wipe away any excess. For intensive restoration, apply oil and leave overnight.

Oak's Natural Character

Oak develops a deeper, more golden patina with age—a natural mellowing that reflects years of use. The open grain may show knife marks over time, but these become part of the board's character. Regular oiling keeps the surface smooth and functional while enhancing the natural figure of the wood.
